LIHU‘E — The Kapa‘a High School girls bowling team and the Kaua‘i High School bowling team were named to the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation following the final roll on Wednesday at the Kaua‘i Bowl.
On the Girls’ lanes, Kapa‘a’s Skye Tadani emerged as the top individualist for girls with a 178.67 best 9-match average. Tadani was challenged by teammates Jennifer Hayakawa with a 171 average, and Kailee Gorospe who finished the season with a 157.111 average, and Waimea’s Irish Oriente who ended the season with a 140.56 average.
Callum Meredith, only one of two boys bowlers for Kapa‘a High School, dominated the boys’ lanes as the top boys bowler with a 228.333 average. He was challenged by Kaua‘i High School’s Shayden Peralta with a 216.78 average, and Kylie Sasaki who finished with a 205.111 average. These were the only three boys in the KIF to roll 200-plus averages.
On the lanes in the KIF finale, Peralta, rolling a 225 game-high to tie with Kapa‘a’s Meredith, led the Red Raider men to a 2,539 pinfall over Waimea High School boys who finished with a 1,805 pinfall led by Richard Palacio who hit 182 on the night.
Kapa‘a did not have enough bowlers to be eligible for team scoring.
Tadani, rolling a 178 high on the night, and Gorospe, coming up with a 169 in the third game, led the Lady Warrior team to a 2,249 pinfall over the Waimea High School girls who ended the night with an 1,870 pinfall led by Erica Borbos rolling a team-high 160 in the third game.
Kaua‘i High School did not have enough bowlers to be eligible for team scoring.
With the completed KIF results, the Kapa‘a girls bowling team, including Keahi Bacon (136.67 average), Gorospe, Hayakawa, Tadani, Jodi Woodward (119.444 average), and Rian Yamamoto (118.333 average) will be joined by girls individualists Irish Oriente of Waimea (140 average) and Mikayla Pacheco-Villanueva (138 average) of Kaua‘i at the Billy Tees Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Bowling Championships at the Leeward Bowl on Oahu, Dec. 9 and 10.
Joining the girls, the KIF will be sending the Kaua‘i boys team, including Aaron Juliano (189.444 average), Peralta, Sasaki, Shayne Shibuya (186 average), Justine Pagatpatan (119 average), Gian Panoy (152.222 average), Raiden Ragasa (126.78 average), and Christopher Rosa (129.44 average.
Kapa‘a’s Meredith with a 228 average, and Waimea’s Jericho Gudoy with a 151 average will be bowling as boys individualists at the state tournament.
