LIHU‘E — When Moanikeala “Jamilee” Jimenez went online to solicit funds to purchase care products for women, she was very successful, said Edie Ignacio Neumiller of the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i.
Jimenez was on hand with a box of assorted products Monday, when the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i collected at the Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i store at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e to commemorate the opening of the collection box for the club’s 16 Days of Activism “Malama Pu‘olo Na Wahine,” or care bundles for women campaign that starts on Nov. 25 runs through Dec. 10.
The collection box at Deja Vu will be available through Dec. 4.
During the period the collection box is at the Deja Vu store, the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i is asking people to donate new, unopened care items for women, including skincare, haircare, toiletry, and make up that will be packed and distributed to two charitable organizations — Child and Family Service and Catholic Charities — for their clients.
Violence against women and girls is one of the most pervasive human rights violations, and a global epidemic, states a Zonta Club release. It knows no national or cultural barriers and affects millions of women and girls in peacetime and conflict.
The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i wants to move toward action, resources, and helping all women and children, prompting the club to participate in the Zonta Says No to Violence against Women campaign.
“The Girl Scouts are creating 200 drawstring bags resembling the pu‘olo that the club will use to pack the contributed items,” Ignacio Neumiller said. “In addition to Jamilee’s contribution, Macy’s and Long’s Drugs have promised donation contributions.”
The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i expresses its appreciation to the campaign partners that include the Catholic Charities Hawai‘i, Child and Family Service, the Girl Scouts Hawai‘i with Angela Hoover, the Regional Island Coordinator, Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i, and the Kukui Grove Center.
The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i and representatives from its campaign partners will be on hand on Dec. 4 at the Kukui Grove Center food court from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a final day of product collections as well as raise awareness on the Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women.
