Wade Walter Poor
Wade Walter Poor originally from Hanalei, passed away at the age of 43, on Oct. 22, 2021. He was born on June 20, 1978, in Lihu‘e, and currently resided in Palmyra, Missouri with his wife and 4 children.
Growing up on the northshore of Kaua‘i, Wade attended Hanalei Elementary School and Kapa‘a High and Intermediate where he graduated with the class of ‘96. Wade’s love for the ocean started as a young child. Beginning at the age of 10 he paddled with the Hanalei Canoe Club and was a steersman. He also paddled kayaks and competed in the Junior Olympics. He was a Boat Captain for sightseeing and snorkeling tours down the NaPali Coast and always loved being on the ocean.
After high school, Wade’s love of being on the water called him to attend the Cal Maritime Academy in Vallejo, California where he graduated with the class of 2006. He continued his career as Captain for Dodge Island Hopper and Dredger.
Wade was preceded in death by his grandparents Walter and Delores Poor, William and Florence Brown, step-grandmother Mary Brown, and his Aunt Eileen Godfrey.
He is survived by his loving wife Tara, sons Walter, Joe, Oliver, daughter Emmelyn, his parents Randy and Barbara Poor, his sister Joya (Mike) Meeker, nephew Kekoa, niece Nalani, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Wade will be missed by so many whose lives he’s touched; including his Kaua‘i ‘Ohana and his mariner family. His legacy will certainly live on forever through his 4 beautiful children.
A paddle out in Hanalei Bay to celebrate Wade’s life will be announced at a later date.

Maya Josephine T. Roldan
Maya Josephine T. Roldan passed away on Nov. 1, 2021, in Kapa‘a. She was born on May 28, 1971, in the Philippines and was a Registered Nurse.
Maya was preceded in death by her father Guillermo F. Tejada, Sr.
She is survived by her husband Joel F. Roldan, mother Josefina Cabradilla, brothers Guillermo C. Tejada, Jr. (Mary Jane Fernandez) of Hanama‘ulu, Joeffrey C. Tejada of Kapa‘a, sisters Glenda C. Tejada (Marlon Igaya) of Hanapepe, Jona C. Tejada (Lucky Thammavongsa) of Kapa‘a, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Nov. 13, 2021, at the Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church in Kapa‘a. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:30 p.m. Casual attire and flowers are welcome. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and masks are required.

Rev. Yoshiko Shimabukuro
The Rev. Yoshiko Shimabukuro, 109, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on July 20, 2021, at Garden Isle Rehabilitation & Healthcare. She was born on Kaua‘i on Dec. 26, 1911, and was a reverend for the ‘Ele‘ele Hongwanji Mission.
She is preceded in death by her parents Chokichi and Kame Shimabukuro, siblings Hiroko Itokazu, Chiyoko Shimabukuro, Naeko Kuwaye, Akiko Miyashiro, Fujiko, Kiyoko, Choichi, Choji, and Tsuneo Shimabukuro.
Yoshiko is survived by her sister Takeko “Betsy” (Akira) Oyakawa, sister-in-law Shizuko (Choji-deceased) Shimabukuro, Doris Hanae (Choichi-deceased) Shimabukuro, numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at Hanapepe Hongwanji with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. and services celebrated at 10:15 a.m.
Family requests no koden or monetary gifts. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and face masks are required.

Gavin Matthew Degracia
Gavin Matthew Degracia, 41 of Lihu‘e, transitioned to heaven on Oct. 13, 2021. He was born on Feb. 18, 1980 in Honolulu.
Gavin was a loving husband to his wife Kristyn Degracia, loving father to Kanalu Kaneholani, Mikaela Degracia, Kobi Degracia, a wonderful son to Francis “Frenchie” and Corrine “Debbie” Degracia Sr, brother to Desiree (Randy) Oliver, Francis (Joli) Degracia Jr., Chelsie Degracia, nieces and nephews Ilona, Clifton, Bronson and Jared Oliver, Kahelena and Makana Degracia, Audree Catbagan and Shayden Wada, Shaundi, Lukas and Mikela Ayau, Jhayda and Jhayzlyn Oligo.
Gavin is preceded in death by his grandparents Steven Tolentino and Primativa Velanueva Clemente Degracia, Al and Juliana Beralas.
Gavin is a graduate of Kaua‘i High School, Class of 1998. He was employed at Aloha Airlines for 5 years, then with Hawaiian Airlines for 13 years as a Ramp Agent. He was a part of Hula Halau Kanikapahuolohi‘au under the direction of Kumu Hula Pohaku Nishimitsu. He was a member of various music bands on Kaua‘i, Na Holokai, Kainoa ‘Ohana and Revival. He enjoyed playing the acoustic/electric guitar, ukulele and keyboards.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, at Kapaa Missionary Church visitation at 9 a.m., service to follow at 10 a.m. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks will be required.
