LIHU‘E — Artist Julijana Pinnock said the only thing missing was the glass of wine Tuesday as she adjusted artwork on the walls of the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery at the Kukui Grove Center.
Sandwiched between the major KSA art exhibits, Pinnock will open her solo art exhibition today starting at 6 p.m.
“This is my first solo exhibition,” Pinnock said. “I’ll be having classes as part of ‘Julia’s Art with heart.’ Classes will start Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and interested people can register online at www.paintwithjulia.com, scan the QR code on the poster on the doors of the KSA gallery, or just walk in.”
Classes that will be held on Nov. 5, 6, 7, 11, and 12 are two hours in length, running from 6 to 8 p.m.
Pinnock’s art highlights the beauty of the island in her unique style of painting — things she will share with her students. The beauty showcases the ocean, sky, and the island’s nature.
Pinnock was also one of the violin painters during the recent Boys & Girls Club violin class fundraiser that featured the work of middle school students learning to play the stringed instrument.
Each day’s class will feature a different subject starting with floral on Friday. Saturday and Sunday classes focus on seascapes before returning to floral on Nov. 12.
In between, on Nov. 11, Pinnock will be sharing her friend, guest artist Karen Hall, who will be leading a jewelry-making class using techniques and styling Hall brought with her from the mainland.
Each of the classes include art supplies, appetizers and beverages, and aspiring artists are invited to browse Pinnock’s work, and possibly purchase them.
Joining Pinnock during the opening night, Megan Lawson will have her band “Desperado Orchestra” performing at the KSA gallery.
“You remember Megan?” Pinnock said. “She was one of the instructors for the Boys & Girls Club violin class. She’s coming with her band to help us celebrate.”
