Now, where are those Filipino long beans at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e Monday?
Steven Fujii missed on the pumpkin giveaway last week. He had to settle for just papaya (has anyone done carving on green papaya?) this week.
Amy Chun said Kaua‘i Community College culinary-arts instructor Steve Nakata was going to be late in picking up the boxes of produce he had set aside for the culinary-arts students to use for preparing lunch for the college’s staff (I knew I saw a couple of them taking notes a few weeks ago).
But Amy was able to find those white radishes (are you sure that’s not daikon?) that are red on the inside. Amy said when you use those to make pickles (why can’t we just call it “takuwan?”), the red “leaks” out and turns the entire bottle a nice shade of pink with no food coloring added.
With all that talk of food, Bill Spitz joined Bev Pang and Laurie Ho for ramen dinner (no, Wanda Shibata had the L &L Hawaiian Bar-B-Que specials before getting out to Anahola for her poi).
Pumpkins or not, people flocked to the market seeking other foods they could enjoy for Halloween.
Kudos to Stacie Sequina and Kerry of Aloha Island Mart in Puhi (they sell a lot more than gas!) for taking a pumpkin and creating something creative for the company-wide decorating contest! The creations are nice to look at while waiting in line.
