LIHU‘E — Starting Monday, Sept. 27, there will be a single lane closure along Kuhio Highway between Mailihuna Road and Kawaihau Road, in the vicinity of St. Catherine Cemetery.
Kuhio Highway will be reduced to one lane, and travel in both directions will be maintained through use of alternating traffic flow from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, the state Department of Transportation announced.
The closure is necessary to reconstruct and repave Kuhio Highway.
It is necessary to do this work during the day due to the shearwater fledgling season, which runs from Sept. 15 to Dec. 15.
All work is weather-permitting. Should construction go according to schedule, the work will be completed in early October.
Koloa
• Partial lane closures on multiple sections of Koloa and Maluhia roads continue from Monday to Friday, Sept. 27 to Oct. 1, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., for punch-list items and striping operations. Motorists are advised to expect brief and occasional delays.
Wailua
• A shoulder closure and narrowed lanes on Kuhio Highway between mile markers 5.7 and 6.6, vicinity of Leho Drive and Kapa‘a bypass road continues 24 hours a day until further notice.
Anahola
• A right-lane closure of Kuhio Highway is possible in either direction between mile markers 11.8 and 13.1, vicinity of mile post 12, to Kukuihale Road, Monday through Friday, Sept. 27 to Oct. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for highway-widening, to support installation of a center lane.
• A right-lane closure of Kuhio Highway is possible in either direction between mile markers 12.2 and 16.6, Ko‘olau Road and vicinity of Anapalau Point, Monday through Friday, Sept. 27 through Oct. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for landscaping and tree trimming. Work will begin in the northbound direction and will switch to southbound once northbound landscaping is completed.
Kalihiwai
• A right-lane closure of Kuhio Highway is possible in either direction between mile markers 23.3 and 25.1, Kolo Road and Kalihiwai Road, Monday through Friday, Sept. 27 to Oct. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for landscaping and tree trimming. Work will begin in the northbound direction and will switch to southbound once northbound landscaping is completed.
Hanalei
• A single-lane closure of Kuhio Highway in both directions between mile markers 0.0 and 1.3, the start of Route 560 and Ohiki Road, Monday through Friday, Sept. 27 through Oct. 1, will take place from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for Hanalei Hill emergency project construction. There will be an alternating, single-lane closure between the Kolopua Apartments and Hanalei Bridge during these work hours.
The schedule for Hanalei public access for this week is: Today, two lanes open all day; Monday to Saturday: midnight to 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 7 a.m., two lanes open; 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., single-lane alternating traffic.
