KAPA‘A — Following the successful launch of the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League flag and cheer football games Saturday at the newly renovated stadium in the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex, the league moves its slate of games to Hanapepe Saturday.
KAPA‘A — Following the successful launch of the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League flag and cheer football games Saturday at the newly renovated stadium in the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex, the league moves its slate of games to Hanapepe Saturday.
Seven games are on tap starting at 7:30 a.m. when the Kekaha and Hanapepe associations share hosting duties at Hanapepe Stadium.
Kekaha will host the Lihu‘e association in the morning series that starts with the 12 and under division opening followed by the 14 and under division play starting at 9:30 a.m. Koloa Bobcats, staying strong against Kapa‘a in the new stadium, closes the Kekaha host segment starting at 11:30 a.m.
Hanapepe hosts the afternoon series with four games starting with the Cubs taking the field against Koloa starting at 12:30 p.m. The 10 and under Kekaha squad tangles with the Colts starting at 1:30 p.m.
The Kapa‘a Eagles come over the hill when its Bobcats take on the Colts starting at 3:30 p.m., and wraps up the day when its 12 and under Eagles take on Kekaha starting at 3:30 p.m.
These are the scheduled games, subject to change depending on COVID-19 standings and testing. All of the games are contested under COVID-19 guidelines that include spectators having to go through temperature checks and hand sanitizing before entry into the stadium.
Spectators are restricted to the team’s immediate family, practicing no large gatherings and social distancing. The families must vacate the stadium once the contest is over.
There is also no food booth available, and spectators bringing in snacks and beverages to enjoy during the game are encouraged and asked to clear their opala when they leave.
Finally, because of the endangered-seabird fledging season that started on Sept. 15, all games are restricted to daylight hours only.
