LIHU‘E — Tuesday, the state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office announced 35 new cases of COVID-19.
All the new cases are in residents. Of the 35 cases, nine are children and 26 are adults.
Two of the cases are related to travel — one mainland and one interisland. The remaining 33 new cases are considered community-acquired. Twenty-five of the community-acquired infections are close contacts of previously announced cases or tied to an active cluster. The remaining eight community-acquired cases have no known source of infection, including three cases whom investigators have been unable to reach after repeated attempts or who have refused to provide information.
Active cases are directed to isolate, and close contacts are being identified, offered testing and directed to quarantine. Investigations are ongoing.
Tuesday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 278, with four hospitalized, and 1,675 cumulative cases.
