LIHU‘E — The state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office announced 23 new cases on Sunday.
Sunday’s cases include five visitors and 18 residents.
Of the 23 cases, two are children and 21 are adults. Eight of the cases are related to travel — five mainland and three interisland. The remaining 15 new cases are considered community-acquired. Eight of the community-acquired infections are close contacts of previously announced cases or are tied to an active cluster.

Active cases are directed to isolate. Close contacts are being identified, offered testing and directed to quarantine. Investigations are ongoing.

Vaccination is free and widely available on the island, including on weekends and evenings and pop-up vaccination opportunities at community sites. Many vaccination sites accept walk-ins. Residents aged 18 and older are eligible for any vaccine available at pharmacy, hospital and clinic locations. The Pfizer vaccine has been authorized for use in those 12 years of age and older, and is currently available at Wilcox Medical Center, Lihu‘e Longs, Puhi Safeway, Kaiser Permanente Lihu‘e Clinic and Hoʽola Lahui clinics in Waimea and Kapa‘a.

Thee news doesn’t seem to report how many vaccinated folks have contracted Covid, such as my wife, my sister. and myself. Stop saying the vaccine is the answer.
No one ever pretended that the vaccine were 100 per cent effective against contracting Covid-19 from being exposed to the virus. The vaccines are designed to prevent severe disease, long term consequences and potential death. By severe disease what is understood is requiring checking in to a hospital and heavy treatments. Now, the vaccine is also effective at slowing the spread of the virus as you are less likely to contract the virus but it is not enough.
And were you hospitalized, or did you die from it? I don’t get it, you’re vaccinated, caught a strain that mutated after the vaccine was developed, got the benefit of a lesser infection, and still complain that you got vaccinated.
Give everyone infected… lime green headbands that they have to where so strangers in public know to avoid them… NO SHAME. Is not an STD. Tell everybody you get em if you get em. Garentits community spread stop.
The national news is full of reports indicating that over 95% of hospitalizations and deaths are among the unvaccinated. Do we really want kids to go down with that ship about “We got it and we didn’t die.”?
When will the County and State start to report and share more relevant information. Although its not debatable that death can occur if Covid infects we now should be given data on how many of these people failed to be vaccinated. Perhaps a better number to include is how many people recovered quickly or that therapeutics were extremely effective in days 1-5. Covid does not mean death, how fast its treated and having a conversation with your doctor of what is your unique plan if you happen to get Covid vaccinated or not. Its your health take control of knowing your options.
Hearing how many cumulative cases Kauai has had since 2020 is information that is no longer useful, confusing many and at this point is just more fear mongering. The lection is over, please start educating all solutions, vaccinations are perhaps one option for some but treatment of Covid should be the number one story everyday!
Mr. Mayor do your job and use your voice to educate the island on its options, the speed to act and for god sake get the supplies on island necessary to treat Kauai patients on day 1 if they get Covid. The infection happens so quickly, that procrastination can cause your life it its not treated quickly.
When will you Please inform us where Clusters are???
We could begin to avoid certain areas.
Juan, You are alive, are you not? That may be what the vaccine gives to you.
You likely were exposed by someone you know and assumed the person safe.
