What a weekend!
The Kukui Grove Center food court turned into the “Aloha Jazz Lounge” when Skippa Caycayon pulled out the newly-released (Kimberly Hope — she just released her CD, this week, too! — said they exchanged CDs before she got to ParTea) CD by Conrad ‘Kona’ Giminiz and Kekai ‘Chockie’ Chock (Skippa said he even played with them at Kukui Grove a couple of times). Hmmm, sounds like a future Aloha Friday-night gig in the making. Or is that a Sunday jazz thing?
Excitement everywhere, as Meilin Vitale-Vae and Meri-Mine Clarke of Missing Polynesia set up their pop-up next to ParTea through Monday (yes, it’s the Labor Day holiday!) afternoon. That means the Pau Hana Market with the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau is a go too?
And more excitement, as Jennifer Ortal (vegan, gluten-free coconut malasadas?) and Chelsea Januszewski of ArtSea said the Kaua‘i Sheraton Resort pop-up market is seven days a week. Natalie Nishioka of Nataliearth was doing her thing Friday while anticipating her second appearance at the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market Saturday, Sept. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Kress Street (they’re even getting a vaccine clinic, according to the Kaua‘i Community College crew).
Remember Carmen Centeno, who used to work in the TGI office? Kudos to her son Jerik Centeno, who got scoring coordinator credits in the movie “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” that was released Sept. 3!
