Beware of Spectrum
A few days ago we were watching TV, when the Spectrum signal was lost.
We called the local Spectrum office, and they indicated that there was an outage in our neighborhood.
About an hour later they called back to say the problem was corrected. We turned our TV back on, but we still did not have the TV signal.
Spectrum sent out a technician, who indicated that our stereo receiver was damaged. He indicated that we could file a damage claim, which we did.
Spectrum then sent out a technician supervisor to review the equipment, and he verified that our receiver was damaged. He said that he had to forward the damage claim to a corporate office, and that he would indicate that our receiver was damaged.
About a week later, we received a letter from Spectrum denying our claim. Our TV and stereo system worked fine before the Spectrum outage, and after the outage was corrected our system didn’t work. Spectrum says we can’t prove that it’s their fault.
We can, however, encourage everyone to join us in buying a streaming device (Amazon Fire Stick can be purchased for $20 to $40) and signing on with Hulu or other streaming systems, and dropping Spectrum. We don’t need their disdain and lack of respect.

Um. Okay. But, what is the plan to get unlimited fast internet? Phone data won’t cut it. I’m all game for an alternative, and open to hearing about it; there just needs to be an alternative.
Your wall outlet is putting less than 120 volts. Not working properly.
Well said! You’ll like the offerings of streaming devices much better. None of the degenerate TV shows and movies that cable TV gladly provides to unwilling viewers. The other cable providers are no better than Spectrum. Soon, you will spend more time outside and enjoying life rather than watching a box as often as you might now.
And who is going to provide that internet for your streaming devices?
All electronics go bad on this island, as 90% don’t run air conditioners in their house.
Agreed! We just made the mistake of adding of Spectrum cable to our fire stick options & Apple TV and are greatly disappointed with the offerings so will not be keeping it. However their internet service rocks compared to Hawaiian Tel which we suffered with for 30 years on the North Shore. The Kaua’i outdoors is wonderful entertainment during the day but with Covid – we are personally staying home at night and appreciate good shows to watch.
I’ve been trying to cut the cord for years and without OTA, over the air, tv we have only one choice.
The author’s claim that Kauai’s Spectrum shows “disdain and lack of respect” is ironic, because this letter, which is inappropriately published in this forum, should actually be posted on a Yelp business review. The letter’s purpose is to be vindictive, and the matter is petty, especially given the issues that our County and State currently face. There are always 2 sides to every story, and this didn’t need to be published here, Garden Island Newspaper.
