WAILUA — The Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center detainee who escaped the facility earlier this week turned himself in less than 24 hours later, according to the state’s Department of Public Safety.
WAILUA — The Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center detainee who escaped the facility earlier this week turned himself in less than 24 hours later, according to the state’s Department of Public Safety.
Benjamin Brown, who is awaiting trial later this month, was confirmed missing from a 10 p.m. headcount Tuesday evening. Brown voluntarily turned himself in at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
His escape is under investigation.
Correctional staff searched the facility grounds and perimeter and notified the Kaua‘i Police Department, and KPD was notified of his return for arrest and booking on a new escape charge.
Brown is awaiting trial for misdemeanor abuse of a family or household member.
Brown is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 29 for charges stemming from incidents on March 12 and July 12 of this year, according to public records.
