And, of course, kudos to all the participating golfers for being able to be competitive and display great sportsmanship in the era of COVID-19 safety guidelines!
Congratulations, Kanoa Naumu of ‘Ele‘ele, on taking the boys 11 to 13 age-group crown in his first-ever tournament. Kanoa also is in his first year playing golf. Sounds like a future Menehune golfer for the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation.
Mahalo, too, Lauren and Ken for coordinating the Hawai‘i State Golf Association Kaua‘i Amateur tournament so we could catch some of Casey Watabu’s play toward winning the 54-hole tournament at Wailua Golf Course.
More kudos to Jill Lowry and her Anaina Hou Community Park ‘ohana on hosting the second North Shore Career Fair at the park’s Porter Pavilion in Kilauea. Nope, no Big Red (he was grinding one of Jill’s muffins in her car), just some Brazilian cardinals. Do cardinals eat centipedes (Xan found one Monday!)? Gary Smith of Mokihana Pest Control had a whopping eight-incher that stands as the biggest one caught (by Jordan Kahananui Sr. in Kilauea) in 20 years. Gary’s offering a reward to anyone who can catch a live (it must be alive!) one that is bigger.
OK, time to see if that Yeti cooler is still up for grabs at the pop-up farmers’ market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula today. Any special treats for this Labor Day weekend?
