LIHU‘E — Kiana Marie Soliven, a Waimea High School graduate and third-year dental-hygiene student at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, recently received a $5,000 Hawai‘i Dental Service Community Scholarship Award.
This is her third $5,000 HDS Foundation scholarship. She is the daughter of Marissa Molina and the late Randy Soliven.
“Access to quality oral health care for Hawai‘i’s families is a priority for the Hawai‘i Dental Service Foundation and our state,” said Mark Yamakawa, HDS president and CEO.
“By supporting the education of students and encouraging them to practice in Hawai‘i, we are investing in the next generation of oral-health-care professionals for our state,” he said.
The HDS Foundation awarded four dental students and four dental-hygiene students with HDS Community Scholarships totaling $60,000 this year.
The scholarship program was established in 2018 with a $2 million endowment from the HDS Foundation.
To date, the HDS Foundation has awarded a total of $150,500 in scholarships. The HDS Community Scholarship Fund is administered by Hawai‘i Community Foundation and supports Hawai‘i residents pursuing degrees in dental hygiene and dentistry.
