WAILUA — Hilton Garden Inn Kaua‘i Wailua Bay General Manager Ike Cockett said the hotel has a lot of vacancies to fill.
To alleviate that situation, the property set up a job fair in the hotel’s ballroom to accommodate potential employees.
“The hotel’s owners just approved a wage increase,” Cockett said. “Coupled with the employee-benefits package, we are offering competitive jobs.”
The fair also included on-site interviews, resulting in a candidate walking in and walking out with a position.
“We just wanted to make everything easy,” Cockett said. “No appointments, no sign-ups, just walk in and do the entire process all in one stop.”
More employment opportunities are available when the county’s Ho‘ohana Kaua‘i program collaborates with the American Job Center-Kaua‘i for a job fair on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 26 and 27, in the Lihu‘e Civic Center breezeway from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.
A county press release anticipates between 15 and 20 businesses representing a variety of industries on Kaua‘i offering an assortment of employment opportunities.
Interested parties must follow COVID-19 safety procedures, including social distancing, wearing masks, sanitizing hands and minimizing physical contact with others.
Participants should bring copies of their updated resumes, dress appropriately, and be prepared to answer questions in a short interview.
Anaina Hou Community Park also announced Kaua‘i’s Second annual North Shore Career Fair on Monday, Aug. 30, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Porter Pavilion, where organizers hope to bring employers and job seekers together to further opportunities for local residents before unemployment and stimulus funds provided by federal, state and community agencies for COVID-19 relief come to a close.
“This is a timely opportunity for job seekers, with many employers offering signing bonuses, training programs and incentives,” said Anaina Hou Community Park Executive Director Jill Lowry.
“There is great potential for both employers and prospective employees to come together, identify mutual benefits and achieve a perfect match that will work towards rebuilding and strengthening our amazingly resilient island.”
