LIHU‘E — Longtime Kaua‘i resident and singer-songwriter Allan Thomas has announced the release of his seventh studio album, which also celebrates his 50th year of album releases.
“The Journey” features rock, blues, soul, pop and reggae-infused rock grooves.
The 2018 Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning Thomas said he is grateful to still be actively writing and recording with no signs of slowing down.
“The Journey” is packed with artists tied to a slew of legendary acts. It features Steely Dan and Sting drummer Keith Carlock, James Taylor and Elton John bassist Jimmy Johnson, Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder session guitarist Dean Parks, Joni Mitchell and Miles Davis guitar sideman Michael Landau, Yellowjackets composer and pianist Russell Ferrante, David Crosby pianist, songwriter and producer James Raymond, Kaua‘i’s Michael Ruff on keyboards, Bryan Kessler (Hawaiian Style Band) on guitar, Kaua‘i songbird Olivia Ruff singing backup vocals, and several new surprise guests.
Thomas was born in Brooklyn and cut his teeth with doo-wop singing groups in Greenwich Village in the ’70s. He moved to Kaua‘i in 1983 after a decade in Malibu, he told The Garden Island in 2018.
“I‘d lived in Manhattan and California and traveled the world, and it was time to settle down,” he said at the time. “Kaua‘i opened its doors and heart to me. I still find to this day that Kaua‘i’s people, they have aloha. Lucky we live Kaua‘i, and we all feel so blessed.”
“The Journey” and its singles can be downloaded or streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora, YouTube Music and other platforms.
