The excitement overflowed to beyond Kress Street, where coach Colby Ayonon dropped off Beat Athletica materials to both Kress Street and across Rice Street to Barre Soul before heading off to soccer practice, and the Hamura Saimin ‘ohana drew from their Rice Street Block Party experience to bring the crew across to the parking lot for a lot of grab-and-go (including hot from the cooker malasadas) foods that was topped off with Uncle Mikey’s packaged goodies.
And, yes, even the Aladin family from Kaua‘i Family Cafe (they’re at the Pau Hana Market Mondays at Kukui Grove Center) was there, along with Elena Camat’s pretzels.
Over at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e, the Starfish showed up despite not having the Food Drive Day, and joined the excitement with Elyse Litvack and Sheila Bradley of Usborne Books and More during the Kumu’s Cupboard fundraising book sale.
Space is important, and kudos to Danny and Lynda Charlson, their four sons and Alexis Wendelton on the rebirth of the former Koloa Hongwanji Mission social hall into a space similar to the Kaua‘i Beer Company (the place between work and home) with the new Dark Horse Coffee Roasters experience, where Trysen Kaneshige (no, Bethany Coma of Mo‘olelo Murals was too busy with the Night Market to visit) and Seth Womble were creating waves (one of the originals is at the Kaua‘i Beer Company) for the Dark Horse experience.
