With COVID-19, jail could be death sentence
Surprise!
COVID-19 is in jail.
That’s right, the virus doesn’t mind being locked up.
If you’ve driven by Kaua‘i’s correctional facility lately you may have noticed that you didn’t see anyone wearing a mask or socially distancing.
Does the facility have a medical staff? Does a new “visitor” get tested for COVID-19? Are they given a mask? Were they given a vaccination? I remember many news reports about prisons across the country having outbreaks of COVID-19. My advice is don’t get thrown in jail on Kaua‘i. It might be a death sentence.

Tailgating not an option
We all should be traveling on the highways on Kaua‘i at the speed (50 mph) allowed us to travel, and tailgating is not an option. Keep a three-second distance to avoid rear-ending the vehicle/motorcyclist, etc. in front of you, especially with this move-over law. Our highways aren’t wide enough to make sudden decisions.
Most motorcyclists I’ve seen travel the highway as a pack and are well-seen. However, there are a majority of motorcycle riders who ride alone. Be aware and do not tailgate them.
When I ride my motorcycle, I try to be visible using the standard green color jacket and a matching helmet, including long pants, shoes/boots, and a pair of full-finger riding gloves. Also, ride defensively as much possible. However, there are a lot of drivers who are color blind and cut into moving traffic not minding the distance of oncoming vehicles/motorcycles.
Drivers need to remember the rule of checking left, right, then left again before entering the flow of traffic.
