For encouraging vaccinations
For encouraging vaccinations
We seem to just go in circles between the pro-vaccine and anti-vaxxers here on Kaua‘i, and get absolutely no where as our cases rise to an all-time high.
I would love to see at least 10% if not more of our population get vaccinated for two reasons: No. 1, safety of our precious island community; and No. 2, to allow our restaurants to open more fully and serve more customers and employ more people.
In order for this to happen, I would hope that more employers would offer financial incentives here on island to encourage their workforce to vaccinate, and that each one of us who believe in the vaccine and care about our ‘ohana and community will take the time to encourage one person a week to do the same.

How people put so much faith in government run agencies with terrible track records is beyond me.
I won’t mention the establishment but it is very close to the mayor’s office but they have an unvaccinated front worker who refuses to get vaccinated. I have ask her twice now if she got vaccinated. She had not and then I saw her two bosses come from their backroom unmasked. I decided right then and there it is too dangerous for me to go back to that place. What is one to do? Please get vaccinated to protect the defenseless children, they don’t have a choice you do
What a gentleman! Did you ask if she was married, too?
None of business.
Children aren’t at risk.
the vaccines came from non government agencies.
Cmon Douglas, don’t be so naive.
Doug Henry, the whole development and distribution of all things COVID-19 are federally incentivized. The so called Dr. Fauci, senior government infectious disease “expert” has not shown any credible evidence of such a lofty title. You have such faith in them go aahead.
Patrick H Flores, Boise, Idaho
LOL… You’re joking right? About Dr. Fauci not showing any “credible evidence” of being worthy of his “expert” status….
What do you consider evidence? His medical degree from Cornell University? His board certification in Allergy and Immunology? His 50+ years worth of contributions to medical research? His service under 7 US Presidents? His long list of awards and honorary titles… No? Not good enough for you…?
Fauci has lied directly to us on numerous occasions.
Masks don’t work…then they do…then you need two, and that’s just to start.
Why would he not continue to do so?
I don’t trust any bureaucrats that have been in position for 50 years…let alone 4…they lost all credibility.
Patrick Flores. Just the comments I would expect from a Boise Resident. Illogical and ill-informed and a trumper I would bet Sorry for you bud
One of the fascinating ironies of this whole vaccination situation revolves around the make-up of the 30% or so of residents who refuse to get vaccinated. On the one hand, you have the right-wing Trump voters who believe the Fox news crap about magnets, deep state government control, and other wacky conspiracy theories. On the other hand, you have the neo-hippy, spiritualist, you-are-what-you-eat, yoga practitioners, heavily group in the north but sprinkled around the Island. Who would have thought these two diverse sub-cultures would have anything in common? Well they do: they are both anti-vax. Because of them, we now have the return of restrictions, cancelled events and we are moving towards another lock-down. Thanks for nothing. Just get the damn vaccine already so we can get back to normal. Or get sick. I don’t really care as long as it doesn’t effect the rest of us.
I already had Covid and survived!
It seems that you wish me harm in spite of the fact that I have some of the best NATURAL immunity. Natural antibodies have worked for mankind for at least a few thousand years…
And you want me to be a test subject for big pharma just to make you feel safe?
That seems illogical, immoral and wrong.
If natural immunities work so well, why was there a Black Plague or the Spanish Flu that killed off over half of mankind? Or Aids? Or now Covid? What about Polio, Smallpox and other deadly diseases that were rampant before vaccines were developed by expert scientists who devoted their lives to helping humanity? Natural immunity didn’t help much with all of these. Get the vaccine already.
This is nothing like the plague (there was no virus or vaccine science then)…your comparison is based on unreasonable fear and flawed projections…today you have a vaccine to protect you…if you think I’m a risk to a vaccinated you, then the vaccine you took doesn’t work…so why take it? You can’t have it both ways.
You seem to be denying that humans can build a natural biological response to protect them from a disease that has a .0 something rate of direct cause of death for those under 60 healthy individuals.
Do you wear a helmet for coconuts and a gas mask for car exhaust? Seems logical to me based on your response.
I think if you’re compromised that you should practice best behavior, consult your doctor to weigh the risk/reward ratio for taking the experimental vaccine. If you’re not compromised, or have a co-morbidity and not over 60, that you would statistically be fine getting exposed and your own body would build natural immunity.
Quarantining everyone causes great harm and will delay the inevitable with many more life years lost to societal harm and other consequences by multiple factors. Forcing an experimental vaccine on everyone including those with natural immunity is not scientifically based.
This virus will run its course like every other disease. Protect yourself if you’re worried, wear a mask, stay home, socially distance and buy online if that is your choice. The young and healthy should be FREE to decide what works for them too.
Sorry you live in such fear.
In addition to the letter I wrote above – I feel much more comfortable using the services of those whom I know are vaccinated and they usually freely share that information with me and I know that the customers who shop with me feel the same way as well. Many businesses on the mainland are requiring proof of vaccination in order to gain entrance to restaurants or concerts etc. I would guess that Hawaii is likely not far behind.
I had Covid 6 months ago and survived. My antibody count is at a level that should offer protection. Should I be required to take an experimental vaccine that may cause more harm than good just to make you feel safe?
Yes. Your antibody count will dissipate rapidly. You can catch Covid again and spread to others. Plus, your refusal to get vaccinated effects your fellow residents of Kauai, including children and those who can’t get vaccinated for health reasons. Or just stay home. And what conclusive evidence do you cite that the vaccines cause more harm than good?
So again, natural immunity doesn’t work? Or is it the vaccine that doesn’t…or both?
If I had smallpox and survived, I have natural immunity. If I had the vaccine I might need a booster.
Children have little to 0 risk from Covid, more die from the common flu, this vaccine has no proven long term efficacy. Risk vs. reward again.
Fear doesn’t protect…it leads to poor judgment and loss of control.
I live free, healthy and not in fear.
for those of you who say you’ve had Covid – I wonder if you were truly diagnosed with Covid first of all – it is not enough to self diagnosis and just say you think you’ve had it… And whether you are aware that community spread with the Delta virus is occurring through those who are not vaccinated so that would involve you as well. We had our 4th death on Kaua’i yesterday. My condolences go out to that family.
