LIHU‘E — Puakea Golf Course is tentatively scheduled to reopen sometime this fall.
The course, a portion of which fronts Nawiliwili Road, suspended operations in April 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“This was a difficult decision, but is part of our stay-safer-at-home mandate. We will continue to do our part to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” Puakea Golf Course said at the time, in an announcement still posted to its website.
Manager Casey Watabu responded to an inquiry from The Garden Island on Wednesday.
“We haven’t set an reopening date yet … Fingers crossed that the new variants (of the novel coronavirus) don’t push (us) back further,” Watabu said in an email.

I question why they are staying closed for so long? Golf Courses have such a low rate of being able to transfer, you are automatically in a small group since most groups allow up to 4, maybe 6 in certain cases. You are out in the open, you can have your own cart, I mean you can physically stay far way from people during the entire 18 holes. Golf Courses were one of the first facilities to reopen.
I agree. If I lived at Puakea I would be furious that they have closed for so long. Its a golf course development sold as golf course homes. Whatever, its probably more of a money issue than a covid issue.
