LIHU‘E — Hawai‘i Alpha Delta Kappa Mu Chapter member Kathy Kinch said she missed doing bulletin boards while scoping the resources available for educators at Kumu’s Cupboard on Tuesday.
Kinch represented the group that presented Kumu’s Cupboard with a $1,000 award to support the nonprofit educators’ resource center that is currently enjoying brisk traffic as Kaua‘i’s schools reopen for the fall semester.
“Hawai‘i Alpha Delta Kappa Mu Chapter is a part of an international honorary organization of women educators,” said Betsy Uyematsu. “This award is one of five done each biennium. It’s our turn on Kaua‘i this year, and since we’re all educators, we’re supporting our teachers by presenting the award to Kumu’s Cupboard, Kaua‘i’s very-deserving recipient.”
Due to the steady, high volume of educator traffic, Elyse Litvack, Kumu’s Cupboard co-founder and president, said the funds come at a time when it could easily be used to replenish supplies and materials for Kaua‘i’s teachers.
“Kumu’s Cupboard appreciates the support for Kaua‘i’s educators who, without Kumu’s Cupboard, would be dipping into their own pockets to get these supplies for their classrooms,” Litvack said. “Thank you on behalf of all these teachers.”
Litvack said there was another donor scheduled to arrive before day’s end, and in addition to the gifts, Kumu’s Cupboard, in partnership with Sheila Bradley and Usborne Books and More, will be hosting a fundraising book sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Kukui Grove Center.
“We’ll be inside,” Litvack said. “We’re not going to be at the traditional food court area. Melissa McFerrin-Warrack, the Kukui Grove special events coordinator, said we’ll be inside one of the spaces. Come look for us.”
