LIHU‘E — The state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported 12 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.
Sunday’s cases consist of two visitors and 10 residents. Of the 12 cases, five are children and seven are adults. All 12 cases are related to mainland travel.
All active cases are in isolation, and close contacts are being identified, offered testing, and directed to quarantine. Investigations are ongoing.
Sunday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 102, with three hospitalized, and 711 cumulative cases.
“We are still seeing many cases in people who have recently traveled,” said Dr. Janet Berreman, head of the Kaua‘i District Health Office.
“Masks, vaccination and testing continue to be our most-effective tools for slowing the spread of the delta variant. If you must travel, please be vaccinated before you go, and wear a mask in crowded indoor settings. Finally, please get tested three to five days after you return to Kaua‘i.”
Anyone testing postive should immediately isolate at home and let close contacts know they’ve been exposed. Close contacts should quarantine and plan to be tested.

Testing is also available through primary-care physicians, hospitals and urgent-care clinics. For more details, visit kauai.gov/covidtest. For more information on the county’s COVID-19 response, visit kauai.gov/COVID-19.
Test everyone once a week.
Because, vaccinated people spread the virus asymptomatically.
The vaccine may moderate symptoms, that is where the problem lies. Asymptomatic spread.
It would be valuable to know which states these returning residents visited on the mainland.
