Kudos to Samira Siale, Berris Wall, Jim Brahman, and all those Visitor Industry people for slugging out the Charity Walk bowling event in the face of COVID-19 restrictions and rules. Paul Toner led his Royal Sonesta team as Da Big Dog, and Jaye Gayagas-Youn and Barbara Gusman of the Sheraton Kaua‘i at Coconut Beach attacked the lanes in fancy work clothes next to the student team (yes, they’re all vaccinated) of Jennifer Hayakawa, Skye Tadani and Ryan Murata (his sister, the state No. 1 female bowler Dana was helping keep everyone’s scoreboard working smoothly). And, of course, nothing is complete without DJ Marv De Vera…okay, the next fun thing is the Charity Walk golf coming up, Aug. 28 at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course.

Kudos to Lawrence and Toshie Mendonca and son Lawrence for partnering with the YWCA of Kaua‘i in hosting the 14th annual Never Forget Sandy G golf tournament that benefits victims and survivors of domestic violence and raises the awareness of domestic violence. Shelley Paik had to be there doing photos of the foursomes at the different Hokuala Ocean Course holes, and chauffering Aunty Janet May (Happy birthday, Aunty Janet!) and Toshie around the course…who won the autographed Joe Montana football helmet?
How many Spam musubi does L&L Hawaiian Barbecue (yes, there is one in the Kukui Grove Center!) sell in a day? The answer, according to the L&L social media page, is 20,000. L&L is giving away Spam Musubi (they have limited-time-only apparel for sale on their website) by downloading their app celebrating National Spam Musubi Day, which is Aug. 8…that’s the same day as the grand opening of Rose’s Pinoy Favorites!
