Man found unresponsive near Wailua Falls
KAPAIA — Around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, the Kaua‘i Police Department received a report of a missing 28-year-old male resident.
According to preliminary reports, the male’s vehicle was located along Ma‘alo Road near Wailua Falls in Kapaia, according to a county official.
After a search with family members and the KPD, at 7:45 p.m. the male was found unresponsive 40 feet down a hillside near the area of his vehicle.
At 8 p.m., firefighters arrived on the scene. Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel with Engine 3 and Rescue 3 (Lihu‘e) utilized a multipurpose device to lower first responders with emergency equipment to reach the male.
After the patient was extracted, responding medics with American Medical Response provided advanced life support and continued efforts on the hiker, who was transported to Wilcox Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Scrap metal not accepted at Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station
HANALEI — Due to ongoing maintenance at the Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station, scrap metal is not accepted until further notice.
The county is requesting customers bring their material to the Kapa‘a or Lihu‘e refuse transfer stations. All transfer stations are open daily from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. except for holidays.
As a reminder, appliances are not accepted at the Lihu‘e refuse transfer station. Residents may also bring scrap metal and appliances to the Puhi Metals Recycling facility free of charge Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
