Did that autographed Joe Montana football helmet at the Never Forget Sandy G golf tournament silent auction match the autographed Joe Montana jersey on display at Paradise Sports (congratulations to Daniel and Sarah Ouellett, and keiki Emma, Isla and Maddox on opening the doors Saturday at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e!).

More kudos to the Hawai‘i Government Employees Association Kaua‘i branch on hosting the bon-style event (those hand-painted HGEA Kaua‘i bon-dance bling make good COVID-19 collector items!) that benefited the Charles R. Kendall Scholarship and the upcoming American Cancer Society Relay For Life (What’s the scoops on the Sept. 11 event, Patti Ornellas?). Becky Komaki and Priscilla Badua were cranking out that uniquely Westside malasada…too bad it was a Friday-only event (too bad, Brian Atendido, who only got flying saucers Saturday).
Coach Russell Wellington said the flying-saucer routine was what they did at taiko practice. These are the popular bon-dance foods that just poked through in the COVID-19 climate where bon dances were pretty much shut down due to gathering and social-distancing rules.
Kudos to the Back to School Bash Committee for wrapping up this year’s event (school starts Tuesday) with a final giveaway Friday. Judy Cano was amazing to find “something” because she didn’t want people to leave empty-handed as the Kukui Grove Center readied for a night (er, evening) of dance music with Ray Domingo and the Sunset Swing Band.
OK, time to go check out those senior softball players that have their state tournament in Hanapepe starting Tuesday morning!
