Lounger won’t become sea trash
Regarding the reader who thought that the lawn chair in which I was sitting at Palama in the photo on 21 July would likely become ocean trash during a full-moon high tide with high surf, this photo was taken two years ago. I was back there several weeks ago and this same chair is still in the same place. Short of a hurricane, it isn’t going anywhere. It is on rocks well above the sea.

Congress should fund research into cultured meat
Senators Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz should include funding for cultured-meat research in the infrastructure package. For those who don’t know, cultured meat is grown from cells, without slaughter. Development of this new protein is crucial for reducing our pandemic risk, meeting our climate goals and treating our fellow creatures with respect.
Individual companies can only make so much progress. Privately funded research generally isn’t shared, for obvious reasons, which hinders development of the field as a whole. That’s why Congress should add money to the infrastructure bill for open-access, cultured-meat research. This extraordinary technology has the potential to do so much good for the United States.

Personality-type pandemic pop quiz
No. 1. I grew up in a dysfunctional family (who didn’t?) and I am the hero type. I strive to be perfect, have a fear of failure, and everything I say is right. It’s my way or the highway. Here is my view of the pandemic:
I completely trust the authorities. The CDC, World Health Organization, Dr. Fauci, the current government are correct in everything they say. The pandemic came out of a wet market in Wuhan, China, and spread all over the world, killing thousands. Luckily, an effective vaccine has been developed which is curbing the destructive course of the pandemic. Because of the emergence of virus variants, everyone should be forced to take the vaccine without exception.
No. 2. I grew up in a dysfunctional family and I am the black-sheep type. I am the “bad” member of the family, and a constant problem.
Here is what I think about the pandemic:
The pandemic was engineered by a shadow network of psychopathic freemasons. The COVID-19 thing is a hoax, geared to vaccinate the entire world population with a destructive vaccine made to kill off millions of people. The more you look into it, the more contradictions and falsehoods are apparent in the mainstream version of the pandemic. I wouldn’t take that vaccine if you paid me.
No. 3. I grew up in a dysfunctional family and I am the lost-child type. I have low self-esteem and I don’t have much to contribute. I pretty much go along with whatever someone in authority tells me. Here is what I think about the pandemic:
Well, why would my opinion matter anyway? I have taken the vaccine because the authorities on TV told me to. I will probably get boosters to combat the variants if I am told to do that. I have my doubts about some of the rules, though. Why would vaccinated people need to keep wearing masks and staying away from unvaccinated people? Did the virus actually come out of a bio lab in China? Why would children need to wear masks and be vaccinated? Oh well, nobody pays attention to me anyway.
Ok. Here are the correct answers: You are on your own to pick your correct category. No waffles or NFL football to distract you this time.
Molly Jones, Kealia
Molly, I started to read the letter, but then noticed your style all over it so I scrolled to the bottom and saw your name. I will pass on reading your letter, its like reading something out of kindergarten or first grade. No thanks.
I grew up in a dysfunctional family. Never learned a thing or even tried. Molly Jones is the best phony name I can think of. That about says it!
Pete, you forgot Indiana Jones.
Wow, the wackos are out in full force today.
I am without a doubt a number 2 as described.
Thank you Molly, take care.
You’re absolutely right, Molly. Nobody pays attention to you.
Ken, that chair will likely disrupt resting patterns of monk seals. There is no reason to leave it other than laziness. HEY HEY, HO HO, THAT CHAIR HAS GOT TO GO!
