The event at the Harry &Jeanette Weinberg Sports Complex in Wailua served as kind of a reunion, as many of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation soccer names showed up to participate in the seven-a-side pickup matches where the winning team earned specially-designed face masks.
Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society, which has a special Relay For Life event coming up Sept. 11 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
More kudos to Barbara Wiedner of Surfrider Kaua‘i (Barbara said Surfrider was started by surfers in California) and Natasha Troche of The Cliffs at Princeville on hosting the Keiki Ocean Education Day Monday (The Cliffs have another one coming up Aug. 27!).
Barbara got help from Raquel Moody (she was an artist with the Kaua‘i Society of Artists Washed Up Marine Debris art show) and Barbara Levin, who coordinates the beach cleanups with the hotels.
OK, time to get started packing for the Back to School Bash coming up Saturday from 9:30 a.m. at Kukui Grove Center, where Wilcox Health, in partnership with the Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation Kaua‘i Region, and the state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office will be hosting a vaccine clinic for anyone 12 years and older.
