Variety of pop-ups at Kukui Grove this Saturday

LIHU‘E — A shopper was overwhelmed in emotion as she stepped into the space adjacent to ParTea Friday afternoon at the Kukui Grove Center.

“I’m so happy,” she said, trying to control her emotion and figure out which table to browse first at the Misha Hawai‘i pop-up that hosted a steady stream of ladies shopping.

Misha has been operating out of an office and studio on O‘ahu for the past 10 years, making sojourns to the Big Island where she vends at the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival.

“I started with shells,” Misha said. “It evolved into pearls as my specialty.”

“Be sure to tell him you’re a graduate of Parson’s School of Design in New York,” said Angela Stein, a Misha associate who lives on Kaua‘i and works for the Honolulu-based jewelry designer, remotely.

Misha specializes in pearls, fine jewelry, and bangles for this first trip to Kaua‘i that was inspired by Stein living here, said Melissa McFerrin-Warrack of Kukui Grove.

“She’s always wanted to come here,” McFerrin-Warrack said. “I’m glad we could find the space to accommodate her.”

Misha is only available until Saturday at 3 p.m.

“This is our first time on Kaua‘i,” Misha said. “It’s been a fun trip. We hope to be able to return, maybe in the fall.”

Misha Hawai‘i is also joined by a flurry of other pop-ups, Saturday when Aloha Dance Studio hosts its day-long open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the space next to Macy’s. The open house will feature pop-up vendors like Beat Athletica, Shay’s Cookies, LoveLea Crafts & Accessories, and more.

Massages and Cupping by Amanda Englhardt will add to the excitement that includes the family registration fee being waived for people that register in-person during the Aloha Dance Studio open house.

Registration also includes entry to win something from a selection of offerings that include gifts from one of the pop-up vendors, a free week of dance, or gymnastics, and one free month of unlimited classes.

McFerrin-Warrack said these are just part of this weekend’s offering at Kukui Grove that starts with The Pali Climbing Wall offering free climbs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot overlooking the Starbucks and Hawai‘iUSA Federal Credit Union.

“It’s free,” McFerrin-Warrack said. “Everyone can enjoy the challenge of the Pali Wall, all day.”

And, if that’s not enough excitement, Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i celebrates its 112th birthday with a tentful of specials set up in the open area near Genki Sushi. Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i, with stores in Kapa‘a town and in The Shops at Kukui‘ula, was founded by Mankichi Miura in 1909 when he opened the doors to M. Miura Store selling senbei, yokan, kanten, and okoshi.

The annual Back to School Bash schools supplies giveaway will take place July 24 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. where Wilcox Health, the Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation, Kaua‘i Region, and the Department of Health will be offering free vaccines to anyone, 12 years and older from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
