Plea for help for Salt Pond families
Plea for help for Salt Pond families
Please, Mayor’s Office, help with eviction of the families at Salt Pond.
There should not be an eviction without anywhere for them to go.
Many of them don’t qualify or can’t afford housing. They need specific help, someone to help each family.
I know this particular family down there very well, and they have tried very hard in this life. Their father worked as a county worker many years ago there, taking care of the park.
It is sad that these are Hawaiian people who have no land, who have nowhere to go. They have been forced out. We as a community have failed the Hawaiian people. They are houseless, and now we kick them out of the safe place they have lived.

I’m shocked. They have no families or are the whole families homeless. And they don’t have any place to go.
Do they have clothes and food and water stocked away? I don’t know any agency that will find them homes.
You could try OHA. They could recommend an agency.
Um, just curious……why do you believe “It is sad that these are Hawaiian people who have no land”??
First, “we” have made it easy on the houseless to settle on many of the beaches……beautiful scenery, your own beach, bathrooms and showers, outdoor grills, and some illegally tap in to the electricity at Salt Pond. They spend the day smoking and drinking and catching a wave or two. Who would not take advantage of this??
Second, why do you believe they are “Hawaiian”? Because of the ridiculous flags everywhere? I know it is 2021, and you can claim to be anything you want, but less than 6 percent of Hawaii’s population is “Native Hawaiian”. Just saying.
Wow!!! Big talk behind the keyboard or your cell phone huh… Go down there and tell them their flags are ridiculous and see what happens. I’ll swing by the ER and visit you after you recover from surgery…
I’m confused…..sooo you agree they do nothing all day, almost all are not Native Hawaiian, claim to be part of the Kanaka Maoli cult, raise their cult flags, and claim “Free, Free, Free….this is our land”…….all at the expense of the everyone else on the island who wants to enjoy a day at the beach without the yelling, fights, drugs, feces and urine smell, and smoking?? Did I get that right Professor?
Maybe let one of the family’s stay at you house if you feel so strongly about it.
Yes, our government has failed to protect the population, but please remember we voted them into office. Whos fault is that?
There needs to be a place for these people to at least camp, just not at the beach park.
I feel so bad for these people. Especially the children! The human race has proven over 4,000 of recorded history that life is hard, there are no guarantees, there is no such thing as something being “free”, and if we want to feel safe and participate in the good things life has to offer we must care about others, make good close friends, remain close to our families, stay away from drugs and alcohol, never break a law that will have dire consequences for our personal history, and we must work harder that we ever wanted to. Without that combination of surroundings and effort, one can easily find themselves homeless. We need more good jobs on Kauai for those who are willing and able to work hard! Until then, being able to afford to live in Paradise will never be cheap, and can never be “free”. Moving these families to other areas where life is less expensive, there are more resources for help, better jobs are abundant, and they can create a life that may even allow them to come back and afford their own piece of Paradise is their only viable reality. We wish you health, safety, and happiness. Now, make it happen!
It’s time to get off your akules and go to work. There is more jobs than any of you have seen before. There is no excuse to be lazy whining and puleling for hand outs. Enuff already. Remember God helps those who help themselves!
I thought magic sky daddy said something about helping the poor?
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy
or is the bible only for telling people who to hate?
Jennifer…great idea:
Why don’t you take in this “particular family” and stop lobbying for the taxpayers to be forced into paying for this issue.
The entire problem: a lack of less expensive housing rests, at the foot of disastrous county & state land-use policies that do NOTHING except RESTRICT the supply of such.

They have the power to house all the house less. They don’t want to. They don’t care. Zuck now OWNS 1200-1300 acres of our island. He’s a modern day Knudsen, Robinson, or Wilcox. People have to wake up.
I am going to give this back to god and say, “the poor ye always have.” But me ye don’t.
And see what comes of it. I don’t mind the poor being beneath me.
