Alvaro Serapio
Alvaro Serapio passed away on May 18, 2021, at the age of 97, in ‘Ele‘ele.
He was born on Feb. 22, 1924, in Langiden Abra, Philippines, and was a farm laborer.
He was preceded in death by parents Infiel Serapio and Padaman Balanay, siblings Dominga Martinez, Rosalina Duran and Federico Serapio, and grandson John-Eric Parinas.
He is survived by wife Beatriz C. Serapio, sons Hory (Leticia) Serapio of ‘Ele‘ele, Amado (Rebecca) Serapio of ‘Ele‘ele and Fidel (Estela) Serapio of Kaumakani, daughters Avelina (Nestor) Parinas of ‘Ele‘ele, Leticia Dela Cruz of Manila, Philippines, Zenaida (Clem) Lum of Las Vegas and Crispina (Roel) Acob of ‘Ele‘ele, 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A walk-thru visitation is at Garden Island Mortuary Saturday, July 3, from 9 to 11 a.m., with a celebration of life to follow.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face masks and social distancing are required.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Crispina Theresa Laranio
Crispina Theresa Laranio, 91, of Kapa‘a, passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2021, with her family by her side. She was born in Kapa‘a on May 15, 1930, and retired from Kojima Store as a butcher.
She was preceded in death by husband, Bacillio “Dick” Laranio, parents Ambroscio and Margarita Mande, siblings Belarmino Mande, Faustino Patricio Sr., William Mande Sr. and Gladys Padre, and granddaughters Melissa and Misty Pia-Laranio.
She is survived by children Richard B. (Donna Lau) Laranio, Diana (Clifford) Mancia, Linda (Calvin) Tani and John Laranio, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is Saturday, July 17, at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, with viewing from 9 a.m. and a blessing at 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m.
Masks and social distancing are required.

Renfred Kaohuowai‘ale‘ale Ho‘okano
Renfred Kaohuowai‘ale‘ale Ho‘okano passed away on June 27, 2021, at the age of 64, in Waimea. He was born July 9, 1956, in Waimea, and was a carpenter and mason.
He was preceded in death by parents Alfred “Ohu” and Eliza Ho‘okano, brothers Lionol “Slick” Ho‘okano and Delbert Ho‘okano, sisters Alfreda “Nani” Ho‘okano, Joni Ho‘okano, Lehua Kona, Roxanne “Ui” Ho‘okano and Cecelia “Kiki” Ho‘okano.
He is survived by wife Michelle Ho‘okano of Waimea, daughter Mariza Ilima Ho‘okano of Waimea, one granddaughter, brothers Norman (Noe) Ho‘okano of Waimea and Dean (Debbie) Ho‘okano of Kekaha, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held at a later date.

Israel Padilla-Anaya
Israel Padilla-Anaya passed away on June 20, 2021, at the age of 61. He was born in Mexico on Dec. 16, 1959, and worked in construction.
He was preceded in death by parents Manuel and Guadalupe Padilla, brothers Jose and Daniel Padilla and sister Ester Padilla.
He is survived by wife Danielle Contrades-Padilla, sons Dustin, Ikaika (Betsua), Daniel (Jessica), Philip and Adam (Esli) Padilla-Contrades, three grandchildren and numerous relatives.
A celebration of life is Saturday, July 10, at Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, with visitation at 9 a.m. and a memorial service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m.
Social distancing and face masks are required.
