LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Senior Softball fan Stanley Dotario argued that Barteks, no matter the outcome of Saturday’s games, are No. 2 in the league.
Barteks lived up the hype when Al Aranio opened up the scorebooks in the first inning with a three-run, in-the-park-home run to give the Barteks power from the lumberyard en route to a 14-2 showing over the Keonimana Gents, who settled into the No. 3 slot with a solid 16-5 record after the dust cleared.
The Rookies, settling their No. 1 berth with a 20-1 record earlier, enjoyed a bye Saturday when the league made up games that were rained out earlier.
Barteks finished the season 19-2.
Kawaihau, finishing 12-9 for the season, broke the tie for fifth place with the Aloha Kia Lihu‘e A’s on a win/loss, hit-to-hit and run-differential tiebreaker.
The next contests will be at the 45th annual Hawai‘i State Senior Softball Tournament that will open in the Hanapepe area from Aug. 3 through 5. Kaua‘i Senior Softball League officials are anticipating at least 48 teams playing in at least six brackets, with contests at Hanapepe, Kaumakani, ‘Ele‘ele and the Waimea Athletic Field.
Games will be played with COVID-19 considerations that include no food booths, no lu‘au, and no opening ceremony.
A coaches meeting was held Monday evening.
