KOLOA — The Department of Public Works and Goodfellow Bros. LLC., are announcing that multiple sections of Koloa Road and Maluhia Road are scheduled for lane closures from Monday, June 28 to Friday, July 2.
KOLOA — The Department of Public Works and Goodfellow Bros. LLC., are announcing that multiple sections of Koloa Road and Maluhia Road are scheduled for lane closures from Monday, June 28 to Friday, July 2.
Multiple sections of Koloa Road will be under short lane closures for shoulder grading work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., expect occasional brief delays.
Additionally, from June 28 to July 2, Ala Kalanikaumaka will be fully closed from Koloa Road to Lopaka Paipa Boulevard for underground utility installation. The operation hours for the closure will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Motorists will be detoured to Lopaka Paipa Blvd. during this closure.
Also, beginning Tuesday, July 6, a 24-hour closure will be implemented to complete the makai half of the new Koloa Road Roundabout. All south-bound traffic heading into Kploa Town will be detoured to Ala Kalanikaumaka and Lopaka Paipa Boulevard. Ala Kalanikaumaka will be closed at Lopaka Paipa Boulevard for northbound traffic. Motorists will be detoured to Lopaka Paipa Boulevard and Po‘ipu Road. Westbound traffic on Koloa Road will be routed through the newly constructed mauka half of the Koloa Road Roundabout, and the left turn onto Ala Kalanikaumaka will be permanently closed.
As a reminder, Oma‘o Road is a narrow residential road that is not intended to be used as a detour route and not designed for high volumes of traffic or truck traffic. The speed limit is 25 mph for the entire length of Oma‘o Road. Through trucks are prohibited on Oma‘o Road for the duration of this project. Eastbound motorists from the West Side, Kalaheo, or Lawa‘i are recommended to take Kaumuali‘i Highway to Maluhia Road to access Koloa and Po‘ipu.
Construction of the Koloa Road Roundabout is currently projected to be complete by July 30. The current projected project final completion date is August 27.
