KOKE‘E — First responders rescued an injured hiker in Koke‘e on Friday.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report at approximately 3 p.m. from the Kaua‘i Police Department dispatch of a 30-year-old female visitor with an ankle injury on the Awa‘awapuhi Trail in Koke‘e.
Crews with the Waimea fire station, rescue specialists from the Lihu‘e fire station aboard Air 1 and the battalion chief responded to the incident.
At 3:45 p.m., responders aboard Air 1 located a group of hikers and confirmed the injured hiker’s location. First responders located the hiker, secured her to Air 1, and transported her to awaiting firefighters and personnel with American Medical Response.
Responding medics with AMR provided advanced life support and continued efforts on the hiker, who was transported to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital.
