They happened to see Hawai‘i First Lady Dawn Amano-Ige reading to keiki at the Waimea Public Library (mahalo, Michelle Young and ‘ohana for hosting Amano-Ige). Blanca (she was working the vaccine site at Laukona Park in Hanama‘ulu last week) said they even have their vaccine fliers in Ilocano, and Pua (she wasn’t working last week because it was her birthday) said she’ll be working in Kaumakani Saturday.
Mahalo to the anonymous donor who made it possible for all the guests at Amano-Ige’s reading visit to enjoy some of Lisa Johnston’s Super Duper ice cream. Did the first lady have some?
Congratulations to North Shore Lions Club’s Louis LaFratta on being the club’s president-elect, taking over from current prexy Patrick O’Connell. The North Shore Lions (Gary Pacheco even made a lei for Mayor Derek Kawakami!) came to town to help Kawakami present certificates of commendation to the top four scholarship recipients as well as hype up next year’s golf tournament — it’s on Jan. 10, pandemic pending — where a big chunk of the $50,000 in scholarships come from.
East Kaua‘i Lions prexy Janice Bond had her final meeting Thursday, getting a visit from Lions District Governor Garrett Ogawa (is he from Kona?). Now, who is the president-elect?
OK, it’s Father’s Day weekend. Don’t forget to check out Harvey Maeda and the Kaua‘i Classic Cars at Kukui Grove Center. Is Kelvin Moniz of the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank going to be there? Frank Cruz will start the weekend hopping, and who knows who’ll show up at the center.
