The final ‘Ohana Fishing Days 2021 presented by Kaua‘i Families First is this Saturday in Anahola, said Bridget Arume, who stopped off to visit her daughter’s offering (she’s got koinobori) Saturday during the Relay For Life Pop-Up & Pick-Up at the Coconut Marketplace in Waipouli.
Bridget said the last tournament for North Shore families at ‘Anini Beach Park had prizes made possible by the North Shore Lions Club and Morgan Lopez of the Hawai‘iUSA Federal Credit Union (the grand opening of the Kukui Grove branch across Starbucks is scheduled for June 28!).
Stacie Chiba-Miguel said the Visitor Industry Fishing for Charity tournament is this weekend (check with Kuhio Auto Group for registration packets!), with the weigh-in taking place Sunday from 10 a.m. at Vidinha Stadium, where the Kaua‘i All-Star Baseball Mustang (10 and under) team will be partnering with Reel Nauti Kaua‘i for a food booth, where part of the proceeds will help get the team to participate in the Protect Our Nations Youth (PONY) West Zone Championships in California. Go, team!
Flag Day came and went without the traditional retirement of American flags. No, Jim Jung said the ceremony was just moved to July 3 (that’s the Saturday before the Fourth of July!).
Congratulations, kumu Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza and Na Hula O Kaohikukapulani, on a great performance during the Kamehameha Day weekend celebration at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e.
Kapu said they’re looking at hopefully being able to bring back Holiday Hula this year if the COVID-19 situation improves. And, good luck kumu Leina‘ala Pavao Jardin and the select ladies of Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala, who leave Kaua‘i today to participate in the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival in Hilo while tending to all the protocol involved because of the pandemic.
