Hiroshi Matsuoka
Hiroshi Matsuoka, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away at home on May 17, 2021. Hiroshi was born in Koloa on July 24, 1926.
He was preceded in death by his wife Hiroko Nada Matsuoka, siblings Yoshio Mastuoka, Takeshi Matsuoka, Chisato “Lily” Maeda, “Dora” Takashima.
He is survived by his daughters Verna (Kenneth) Nobriga of Puhi, Lisa Matsuoka of O‘ahu, 2 granddaughters, 1 great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Hanapepe Church of the Nazarene located at 4476 Pepe Rd., Hanapepe. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. and Celebration of Life at 10 a.m. Private burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery. COVID-19 safety precautions will be followed.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Silas Aqui
Silas Aqui passed away on Feb. 15, 2021. He was a fisherman, farmer, police officer, security officer, car salesman and an EMT.
Silas was preceded in death by his father Andrew Aqui, mother Naomi Kauo, brother Arcadio Aqui, sister Naomi Wampler, brother-in-law Daniel Davila, and sons-in-law Nelson Makanani and Wayne Watanabe.
Silas is survived by wife Martha Aqui, sons Joe (Rita) Aqui of College Place, Washington, Gerald (Wanda) Aqui of Kalaheo, Glenn (Linda) Aqui of Puhi, Charlie Aqui of Kapa‘a, Reginald (Phil) Aqui of San Francisco, California, Marc (Dow) Aqui of New York, New York, daughters Kathleen Watanabe of Kapa‘a, Jan Makanani of Hilo, brother Joseph (Bonnie) Yunson of California, sister Sally Davila of Kansas City, Missouri, 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A private celebration of life will be held in June in Anahola.
