LIHU‘E — “If you can’t hit, you can’t win games,” said Ronnie Matsumura of the Rookies following the team’s first season loss, 6-5 at the hands of Barteks, Saturday during the Kaua‘i Senior Softball league games contested at ‘Ele‘ele Park.
With 19 games under its belt and just two more games remaining, the Rookies’ blemish sets up critical matches for itself, Barteks, and the Keonimana Gents who romped over Kawaihau, 13-8 Saturday over at the Wailua Houselots Field.
Similarly, the Hanama‘ulu Hillsiders went to the bottom of the seventh inning to push their advantage, 13-12 over the East Kaua‘i Legends at Wailua Houselots Park.
“They were leading us,” said Ernie Domingo of the Hanama‘ulu Hillsiders. “We went to the bottom of the seventh with no outs to push ahead.”
Games in the Kaua‘i Senior Softball league continues, Saturday when the Barteks and Keonimana Gents open the action at Isenberg Park with a critical game starting at 9 a.m. The Rookies open against the Islanders, also at 9 a.m., at the Kaumakani Park.
