ANAHOLA — Kaua‘i police located and arrested Samson Contrades, 34, and Kapelawaipuolo Keaweamahi, 32, both of Anahola, earlier this week on charges of burglary in the first degree.
According to a preliminary report, police responded to a complaint on Sunday that a burglary had occurred at an Anahola vacation rental some time between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4:40 p.m. Multiple personal items were reported as missing by several victims.
The suspects were identified as Contrades and Keaweamahi, and a search warrant was executed on their residence Monday. The search resulted in the recovery of some of the stolen items.
The suspects were arrested and multiple items have since been returned to some of the victims.
Contrades and Keaweamahi were held at Kaua‘i Police Department cellblock on $110,500 bail and $110,000 bail, respectively. They were each brought to court on Tuesday and subsequently transferred to the Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center.
A preliminary hearing for the case has not yet been set.
“We want to remind the public, including our visitors, to please remember to keep all of your windows and doors locked whenever you leave your home or temporary place of residence,” said Bryson Ponce, assistant chief in charge of the KPD Investigative Services Bureau.
”It is also beneficial to put your valuables either in a safe or in a secure location where the items are adequately concealed,” he added.
“Please also remember to always lock your vehicle’s doors and do not leave valuables unattended while in public, especially at places like the beach, where it’s easy to become distracted,” said Ponce.
The investigation is ongoing.
It’s about time. My residence has been broken into and burglarized on multiple occasions over the years, and no arrests ever made. What I do find out is that “The police know who it is” but the perp is a family member of some politically-connected person on Kauai, so it all conveniently disappears. Only the unconnected get arrested on Kauai.
Got you, nowhere to run!
Hi, and thank you for writing an article on this, me and my family where the ones burglarized. If you have anymore questions or would like an update you can reach out to me. I know we made a mistake of getting to comfortable and not locking up all the way. Our rings are still missing please be on the lookout. I can send pictures if you need them
Does anyone know what the KPD stars are for solving burglaries? I have had my car broken into five times and all my fishing gear ripped off from Kapaa Self Storage yet no feedback from KPD. What’s the stats?
