LIHU‘E — The Mokihana Club announced it has awarded Sophia Gregory a $2,000 scholarship to continue her music studies, club President Terri Gately said.
As per tradition, music students must perform for members of the club. Earlier this month, Gregory performed Marie-Auguste Durand’s “Waltz in E-Flat Major, No. 1, OP. 83” on piano.
Gregory recently graduated from Kapa‘a High School. She has been studying piano since the age of 4. Among other performances, she has participated in the National Piano Guild auditions, where she was ranked in the “Critics’ Circle,” its highest level, several times.
Although she hasn’t decided which college she will attend, she plans to take music classes at the college and/or with a private teacher.
“No matter where I go, I will make sure to find a way to keep music in my life,” she said.
