With graduation looming Friday, Kalen Konishi pushed his final work day on his combined Capstone (er, Senior)/Eagle Scout project that needed to have the final components like the target backing and painting done. Blaze Batoon of Troop 148 was recruiting help from Kalen for his own Eagle project that will take place when the Lihu‘e Hongwanji Preschool students go on summer break.

Congratulations to Tia Koerte and Ke Kula Ni‘ihau O Kekaha ‘ohana on the 20th anniversary (to the day Monday) of the school dedicated to strengthen and perpetuate olelo Ni‘ihau (Tia was kicking herself because she missed the opportunity to visit with U.S. Rep. Kai Kahele on the congressman’s recent visit to Kekaha School across the road)!
It was also nice to see Tracy Fredin and the Hamline University crew from St. Paul, Minnesota, get through the COVID-19 travel restrictions to come visit!
On the other side of the coin, auwe to those who aren’t able to comply with the basic COVID-19 health and safety rules that are clearly posted at the entrance and at the vendor stands at the many farmers’ markets around the island! We still need to do face masks, maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet, and hands off the produce. We need to keep these markets operating!
