May Day King Clifton Hayashi and Queen Violita Ballesteros reigned over the annual May Day celebration Friday that combined with the end of ‘Ohana Pacific Health’s ‘Ohana Week at the Kaua‘i Adult Day Health Center on the campus of Lihu‘e Christian Church.
Kupuna, adorned in special lei and aloha attire, participated in the festive celebration, representing each of the islands of Hawai‘i in traditional, colorful style.
“Although family and friends of kupuna are currently not able to attend the festivities due to continued safety precautions affiliated with the COVID-19, the team felt it was imperative to perpetuate traditions and maintain as much normalcy as possible,” said Director Kaulana Mossman.
“Violita’s endearing optimism is contagious amongst her peers at the center,” Mossman said. “She enjoys engaging with kupuna as emcee, and participates in various activities, including rendering a version of ‘To You, Sweetheart’ that brought so much joy and smiles to fellow attendees.”
“Clifton is a 21-year Army veteran,” Mossman said. “He enjoys sharing about his time in the military, participating in bingo, and always exudes a positive, laid-back vibe.”
‘Ohana Pacific Health also wrapped up its first ‘Ohana Week that honors kupuna and all of the OPH employees statewide for their dedication and commitment to serving kupuna.
“With an emphasis on appreciation and gratitude, we honor kupuna for their lifetime of service as well as all employees for their unwavering and heartfelt contributions in serving kupuna, because we are one ‘ohana,” Mossman said.
The ‘Ohana Pacific Health entities on Kaua‘i include Kaua‘i Adult Day Health Center, Hale Kupuna Heritage Home, Garden Isle Rehabilitation &Healthcare and Stay at Home Healthcare.
