PO‘IPU — Following a 23-25 opening set loss to Kule‘a, Huak‘i clawed back to take the second set, 25-15, Friday evening when the Boy’s Club league took over the Southside Sports Center in Po‘ipu.
Coached by Merrill Carvalho, Kule‘a entered the Po‘ipu facility on a strong note until the aloha ball in the opening set. The momentum switched as Kule‘a could not find the handle to close the door and allowed Huak‘i to chip away at the deficit until a miscue closed the door for Kule‘a.
Huaka‘i continued the momentum in the second set, and went to both sides of the ball in the third set, utilizing blocks and hard hitting to edge past Kule‘a, 25-23.
