LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Families First is announcing a fishing tournament series targeting foster children, displaced ‘ohana, and ‘ohana that have reached out for help during the COVID-19 pandemic.
LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Families First is announcing a fishing tournament series targeting foster children, displaced ‘ohana, and ‘ohana that have reached out for help during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The first of the Let’s go fishing ‘Ohana Days 2021 fishing will be held Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor targeting families living between Hanamaulu and Puhi.
Age groups include Hinana, or 0 to 8 years old, Halalu, or youth 9 to 15 years old, and Papio, or youth 16 to 18 years old.
Registration is required with applications available by emailing kffohanafishing@gmail.com, or calling 808-639-0284.
Check-in period is from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. with participating ‘ohana receiving a makana basket and snack bags for each registered keiki.
Check-out period is from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. with prizes — one per age group, and one ‘ohana prize, limited to four for each tournament, being awarded at 6 p.m.
Judging is based on an individual from each group with the most invasive fish, including ta‘ape, to‘au, and roi. The overall ‘ohana prize is for the most different types of invasive fish.
