Happy birthday, Hayley Garcia, who spent part of her special day delivering U.S. Department of Agriculture food packages for the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League Tuesday under the umbrella of the Lili‘uokalani Trust (kudos to Shereen Ho‘opi‘i and her Lili‘uokalani ‘ohana on coordinating those 400 food packages!).

More kudos to Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School instructors Enoka Karratti and Leslie Frasier (they get support from Principal Jeannie Morris and Vice Principal Taharaa Stein, too!) on that creative (adaptation to COVID-19 health and safety rules!) addition to the school fenceline on Kaneka Street. Passing motorists appreciate the effort, too, gauged by the number of positive comments and horn toots. Too bad the pandemic kept the COVID Quilt (Frasier had a hand in this project created by the school’s social studies students) confined to the school, and Kristy Gibbs and the school’s art department’s showcase was confined to just a week in the school’s cafeteria (Carol Yotsuda of the Garden Island Arts Council got to see it though). Hint: An afternoon walk on the Kaneka Street sidewalks near the roundabout yields a nice treat around 5:30 p.m. — try it!
OK, time to check out Koloa town, because Greg Askew (you remember Ono Pops?) said there will be a Koloa night market taking place Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. in Koloa — not Po‘ipu — near Sueoka Store (Kaua‘i Family Restaurant will have a table — good food! — near the Texaco gas station, too). Should be good because the last Princeville market was hopping.
Stay safe. You still need to wear a face mask even if you’ve gotten your vaccine.
