U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Anthony Guerrero (he might go check out the VA vaccine clinic Saturday at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center) had two of his “future Marines” helping at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e, where Melissa McFerrin-Warrack and the shopping center’s social-media queen Halene Leasiolagi celebrated the return of Carabella oven pizza.

Domingo and Corazon Acupan made their first appearance as vendors with an abundance of packaged small tomators from their Lawa‘i farm at the market. He was pleased to see Bill Spitz. He wasn’t retired when Domingo started doing the Sunshine Markets).
Janice Bond was shopping and trying to push those Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Day golf ball drop tickets (you can still get one by calling Bart Thomas at 503-707-2239), where the first prize is $1,000 cash by Thomas Drywall, second prize is a one-night staycation and dinner certificate courtesy of the Sheraton Kaua‘i Resort and Cabanas, and third place is a Brand golf driver.
Elvrine Chow of Heavenly Haku (ever see how she uses allspice?) was craving kumquats that no one had, so had to settle for the kumquat pecan bread created by Market Manager Flora Worth using Risa Clemmons’ fruit (they’re huge!) from Pong’s Farm.
Mayette Loseto started offering bulb onions (wow! The last three went real fast!) grown by Ted Javellana along with the marang (she said it’s a state fruit because it’s on the state Department of Agriculture poster) that a visiting couple had to look up with their smartphone. Mayette said the sap is real sticky, and she’s only had one so far, while the chickens have already gone through 50.
