WAILUA — The overnight rains subsided and fingers of sunlight poked through the heavy clouds hanging over the Wailua coastal plain Friday morning.
“I knew this was the time,” said kahu Kauilani Kahalekai, who officiated the blessing of Amy Norton, LAc, at the Kinipopo Shopping Village. “This is going to be a great blessing.”
Norton, a licensed acupuncturist in both Hawai‘i and Colorado, was an integral part of the office opening that permeated with the essence of Hawaiian culture and included not only blessing the office space and the receiving of “ha,” but creating a path through water and sound to the space located in the shadow of the benevolent Passion Bakery that provides for the community.
“I feel really good about this space,” Norton said. “After years of working with other offices and medical practices, this is mine, finally.”
The office is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and home visits are also available by calling or texting 855-0321.
“I live in Kapa‘a, so even if the office is open only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, if people have a problem, it’s easy for me to get to the office,” Norton said. “I help people cultivate health and harmony in their life.”
As a further gesture of her happiness at opening her own space, Norton is offering kama‘aina a vaccine special through August.
“All kama‘aina need do is bring a copy of their completed vaccination and receive a free session,” Norton said. “This is my way of helping keep the community safe.”
Norton provides acupuncture, specializing in the treatment of allergies, asthma, colds, flu, headaches and migranes. She also provides help in digestive issues, insect stings, pain from injury, pinched nerves or arthritis, as well as stress reduction for people of all ages.
Norton is also a reiki master teacher, and her training and variety in her skill set allow her to holistically treat patients with a broad range of ailments and help them integrate these modalities into a lifestyle of wellness and balance.
Originally a pre-med student at the University of Northern Colorado, Norton realized that her passion was not in Western medicine. Instead, she found the healing and wellness provided by Eastern medicine to be inspirational.
This led her to earn a master’s degree in traditional Chinese medicine from the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She further expanded her acupuncture abilities by finishing a training program in five element that provided her the tools necessary to treat emotional trauma or physical complaints that have emotional roots.
The five-element training adds supplemental therapies including moxibustion, gua sha, tui na, cupping, herbs, auricular therapy, or related to ear or hearing, Chinese dietary and lifestyle recommendations.
