The unplanned closure allowed them to go early to the Hawai‘i Lodging &Tourism Association Kaua‘i Branch mixer and avoid the emergency cleanup of the beach along Kuhio Highway fronting the former Coco Palms Resort. The Kapa‘a creep is back!
Kudos to Samira Siale (she’s the new HLTA Kaua‘i connector) and Mark Benner of the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas (stay tuned for how we’re doing the Charity Walk during COVID-19), and Jack Machorek and his Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort ‘ohana on putting together a rare get-together for about 40 people (yes, Mark Perriello and Carol Texeira of the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce had eyes on this as they are looking ahead to the chamber’s first in-person Business After Hours later this month) at the Moemoe Fish House.
Barbara Gusman and Jaye Gayagas Youn had the task of keeping an eye on the group for face masks and social distancing (mahalo, Dr. Janet Berreman, on the great job of answering questions on COVID and vaccines), where Bronson Aiwohi (only one person so face mask was not a problem with the social distancing) did the in-person entertainment, and pupu were served in-person from behind a shielded table. And, nobody got wet except while negotiating the pond-riddled parking lot.
OK, that means things like the Kukui Grove Spring Break Family Fun Day can go on Saturday from 11 a.m. in observation of the pandemic health and safety restrictions, where Aaron Swink of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Aquatic Resources will have grab-and-go learning kits, and Morgan Lopez will be with the Hawai‘iUSA Federal Credit Union crew doing the Spring Reading Challenge.
