HONOLULU — AARP Hawai‘i believes a retirement that allows people to choose how they live as they age requires thought and planning.
AARP Hawai‘i is offering a series of free webinars each Saturday in March on Zoom and the AARP Hawai‘i Facebook page.
The “Think of Your Future” webinars cover topics ranging from Social Security to Medicare to investing for retirement and tips about other things to be considered in planning for retirement.
Participants can register for free at aarp.cvent.com/future2021 for one or more of the sessions and get a Zoom link. The webinars will also be simulcast on Facebook Live on the AARP Hawai‘i Facebook page.
People do not need to be AARP members to participate. The webinars are aimed at people who are about 10 years from retirement, but anyone of any age thinking about retirement may benefit from the teachings.
The schedule is as follows:
• 10 a.m. March 6: 10 Steps to Get Ready for Retirement;
• 10 a.m. March 13: Understanding Social Security;
• 10 a.m. March 20: Medicare 101;
• 2 p.m. March 27: Investment Planning for Retirement.
The workshops are facilitated by AARP volunteers. No individual financial advice will be given, and no products or services will be promoted or sold.
“AARP wants people to have good, fact-based information to help them plan for retirement,” said Jackie Boland, AARP Hawai‘i community outreach director.
“You can lose money if you don’t carefully consider when to take Social Security or get caught with unexpected medical costs if you don’t understand how Medicare works,” she said. “A little bit of knowledge goes a long way toward planning for the life you want to live after you stop working full time.”
