Vincent ‘Slinko’ G. Boiser Sr.
Vincent “Slinko” G. Boiser Sr., 72, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Jan. 25, 2021 at home. He was born in Kapaia on April 16, 1948. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War and retired as a custodian from the U.S. Postal Service in Lihu‘e.
He was preceded in death by parents George and Theresa Boiser, son Edward Kalani Bactad, and sisters Marveline Relacion and Yvonne Kaialoa.
He is survived by sons Vincent (Chelsea) G. Boiser Jr. and Albert (Mahina) Bactad, daughters Chelsie (Michael) Canha, Cashie (Eric) Boiser and Ella (El) Ramelb, sister Georgiana (Terry) Boiser-Nunes, brother Gilbert Funes, grandchildren, Charles, Bradley, Cherrilynn and Samantha Coloma, Austin Pongasi, Trysten Bactad, Jadelynn Manzano, Mandee, Mia, Nanea, A.J., Maluhia, Halia, Kahiau and Keanu Bactad, Nakoa, Bryden and Qyrin Ibaan, Kana‘i Bactad, Jaesha and Jonathon Canha and Vyka and Legend Boiser, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Feb. 27, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m.
Face masks and social distancing are required.

Rodney Delanoza
Rodney Delanoza, 65, of Kekaha, passed away in Reno, Nevada, on Nov. 19, 2020, of COVID-19.
He was born in Waimea on Jan. 11, 1955, and retired from United Airlines as a flight attendant.
He was preceded in death by father Bicente Delanoza.
He is survived by mother Genevieve Delanoza of Kekaha, life partner Rick Jordan of Reno, Nevada, sister Gwendolyn of Kekaha, brothers Alan of Los Angeles, Derek of Honolulu and Chad (Mary) Delanoza of Kekaha, and numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins.
A celebration of life is at Garden Island Mortuary, Lawa‘i, on Saturday, February, 20, with family visitation from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a short program. Inurnment will follow at Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery at 2 p.m.
The family suggets aloha attire, and welcomes flowers and lei.
Social distancing and masks are required.
Angel Alayvilla
Angel Alayvilla of Escondido, California, passed away at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido on Jan. 30, 2021, at the age of 76. Born on May 9, 1944 in Lapog, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he was a senior accountant at Green Horizons Landscape and Maintenance, Inc.
He was preceded in death by parents Rufino and Juliana Alayvilla, and brothers Orencio, Raymond Nito and Wayne Alayvilla.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years Monica Louis-Alayvilla, daughters Andrea (Keone) Kelly and Angela (Amoie) Alayvilla, sons Aaron (Shana) Alayvilla and Austin (Brandie) Kekoa of California, stepdaughters Monalei (Punohu) Amulacion and Shana (Frank) Cruz of Kaua‘i, 21 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, siblings Teresita (Revelino Sr.) Tacsiat, Ben (Norma) Alayvilla, Remy (Edward) Chinen, Domi (Carol) Alayvilla, Lolita (Russell Sr.) Fernandes, Priscilla (Michael) Kano, Nancy (Joseph) Fontanilla, David Efren Alayvilla, Josie (Serafin Jr.) Galvez and Wilfred Alayvilla, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, March 6, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Due to COVID 19, face masks and social distancing will be observed and coordinated by the church Bereavement Ministry.
Donn ‘Curly’ Carswell
Donn “Curly” Carswell, age 85, of Hanalei, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 4, 2021.
He was preceded in death by lifelong love, wife Gale Carswell, father Archibald Carswell, mother, Laura Carswell and stepmother Joyce Carswell.
He was born on Feb. 4, 1936. He grew up on O‘ahu and was a graduate of Punahou High School, Class of ’53. He went on to attend Stanford University, where he was an all-star, an all-American, and later nominated as an all-century football player. He graduated with a degree in civil engineering and a minor in geology. After college he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and trained in judo, earning his black belt.
In 1963, he moved to Kaua‘i with wife Gale of 55 years. He worked for Grove Farm Corporation before taking a job with Princeville Corporation on the North Shore of Kaua‘i.
In 1978, he and Gale started Po‘oku Stables along with the famous Hanalei Stampede Rodeo. He was responsible for opening the first athletic club on the island, Kaua‘i Athletic Club, which he ran for almost 30 years.
He was also president of the Hawai‘i Cattlemen’s Cooperative in the early 2000s and played an important role in the cattle industry in Hawai‘i. Curly was very involved in the Koke‘e Leaseholder’s Association, helping to preserve trails and signage, and was integral in helping renew cabin leases with the state.
Curly was a leader in the community. He was an entrepreneur, Marine, engineer, avid handball player and a rancher. He was an adventurer, and always met life head-on with passion, curiosity and enjoyment. He faced the circumstances of life without apology or complaint, and lived such a full life that he is often described as having lived “nine lives.”
He is survived by daughters Kelley Carswell (Brian Fredock) Haneberg and Karin Carswell (Jeff Guest), sons Chris (Jackie) Carswell and David (Denise) Carswell, grandchildren Kela Haneberg, Kaulana Haneberg, Reyn Guest, Ryder Guest, Hayden Guest, Sophie Carswell and Delaney Carswell, and great-grandchildren ‘Anela and Jon Kamai.
There will be an intimate private family service and then a larger celebration of life to be determined post COVID-19.
Consuelo ‘Connie’ Marie Badua Pumaras Nadarisay
Consuelo “Connie” Marie Badua Pumaras Nadarisay, 72, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Feb. 3, 2021.
Mom was born on March 20, 1948 in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, and retired from the state of Hawai‘i Judiciary.
She is survived by her children Chrysanthemum Erorita and Edison Erorita.
We will be celebrating mom’s life at a later date and will make the announcement once the date is determined.
Ronald Alan Blackstad
Ronald Alan Blackstad, born Feb. 16, 1945 in Koloa, peacefully passed at home on Jan. 29, 2021 at the age of 75.
He was retired from Verizon Communications (formerly GTE Hawaiian Tel).
He was preceded in death by wife Loretta T. Blackstad, parents Alexander and Agnes Blackstad, and sister Aleta Fu.
He is survived by sons Kevin J. (Adrianne), Kris K. and Kyle R. (Wailana), grandchildren Kira, Kelly, Koby, Kannen, Kahanu and Wehilani, brothers Michael (Sharon), Payne (Sybil) and Jack (Amy) Blackstad, sister Alexa (Wayne) Samio, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private service will be held with members of the family.
Burial and celebration of life will be held at a later date when restrictions have been lifted.
