SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The University of Hawai‘i women’s basketball team split two Big West Conference games with the University of California Santa Barbara Friday and Saturday.
The Wahine (4-4, 5-5) captured the first conference showdown, 72-62, Friday afternoon.
Hawai‘i didn’t let the Gauchos’ 17-3 run in the second quarter prevent them from winning the game.
The Wahine made up for it in the third quarter with a 25-14 run, and never relinquished the momentum to capture the game.
Hawai‘i ended up outscoring the Gauchos 45-27 in the second half.
The Wahine had only two players score in double digits, led by the production of Kasey Neubert, who finished the game with a double-double, netting 19 points and grabbing 15 boards.
Daejah Phillips also finished with 19 points.
In the second game, the Gauchos made the necessary adjustments to overhaul Hawai‘i, besting them 72-50 Saturday.
Phillips, in the second game, was the only contributor in double figures, with 16.
Hawai‘i struggled to contain the scoring combo of Doris Jones and Alyssa Marin. Jones scored a game-high 23 points, and Marin finished with 12.
The Wahine travel to play games at Long Beach State in BWC play this Friday and Saturday afternoon.
